  19. I have a 14400 modem Hayes compatible.
  20. I have a PC 486DX2 66Mhz computer.
  21. My Internet provider supports 14400 and higher modems.
  22.  
  23. I understand it should give me a download rate of 14400 bps...
  24. Yet in Netscape I see the web pages come in at 400 - 800 bps !!
  25. Also in ftp I download at a rate of 200 -- 800 bps!
  26. Why is that?
  27. Is my telephone line so bad?
  28. Is the modem setup wrong? 
  29. Init string????
  30. What should I try ? How can I test my telephone line (how many bites
  31. it is capable of transferring).
